Slim plus size boudoir clients

My proven method to slim plus-size boudoir clients

I hate to admit it, but I used to fear shooting plus-size clients.

I wanted to help all women look their best, I really did. But if I’m completely honest I just didn’t know how.

During their boudoir shoot I would try a pose, but when it inevitably didn’t flatter them, I’d start beating myself up mentally.

I would start overthinking, withdraw into myself, and become quiet during the shoot. It affected the energy of the shoot, and also my client’s confidence in my abilities.

Then after the shoot I would feel utter disappointment as I looked through the images I had created. I knew my clients deserved better.

And I never wanted to feel that disappointment again.

Determined to become better at photographing curvy women, I started to keep records of the boudoir poses that flattered.

If a client didn’t like her arms, how could I minimise the arms without relying on the client wearing long sleeves?

If a client had a mummy tummy, what other poses could I do other than relying on poses like her laying on her belly, or standing with her back to the camera?

If a client hated their thighs, how could I get it right in-camera rather than relying on Photoshop?

I soon realised that learning how to slim clients wasn’t just important for photographing plus-size clients, because nearly all women want to look slimmer in photos.

I kept copious notes and would flick through them prior to every boudoir shoot to prepare. It was so freeing to finally have a ‘game plan’. To be confident that I could minimise specific areas, and accentuate the assets, of any client that entered my studio.

Soon I realised these notes would be useful to other boudoir photographers and that I needed to share them. So for that reason I created my Curvy Posing Guide.
